A Teacher on the Jesuit Grounds, 1874

A year before the formal school opened, a man named Edward Campbell was already teaching fifty boys on the Jesuit grounds. The school that grew out of that room ran for almost a hundred years. Most of Louisiana has never heard the story.

Sweet Dough Pie Festival Returns This October

Academy of the Sacred Heart Tours Available Year-Round

Le Petit Musée and the Shrine of St. John Berchmans are open for tours by appointment. The museum now includes the history of the Academy's former colored school and its role in educating the Black community of Grand Coteau. Call (337) 662-5275 to schedule.
